New stud male arrives

A costly trip to Showtime

Not just for the speeding ticket I picked up en-route! Having enjoyed all our showing on Saturday, we were expecting a quiet day on Sunday, until we showed some interest in a Houghton Hall female mid-morning. We willingly ended up visiting paddocks some way from Houghton and selected 2 new purchases: 1. Kala has had a great show record as a Junior and we are looking to mate her this Spring 2016. 2. Cosmic has been bought as a future herdsire and, whilst conscious it is still early days as he’s just an Intermediate, we have high hopes for him. Spookily I had held his father – the remarkable grey Parrindi Joseph of Houghton - before he went in the ring late on Saturday not expecting to be taking his son home with me.

Ice melts away

Farewell to Nero Black Ice

By far and away the toughest decision we’ve made in selling but our beloved Ice left us in September for a fantastic opportunity at Winterhead Alpacas of Snowdonia. He has left his mark here already and we have several of his cria due in 2016 but at his new home he has some lovely ladies to cover too. Put in a field with 7 matings to do he didn’t even give me a second glance as I left him to it.

Two girls arrive.

Filling the void.

With no females being born to us in 2014 we were on the look out for quality youngsters that could help fill the void. Our really good friend Amanda Bell at Florens Alpacas was looking to downsize and offered us Kizzy and Treacle – we didn’t need asking twice. We also visited the Auctions in Kendal and Carlisle and were very fortunate to acquire Little Eskrigg Oolala. All 3 girls will be mated for the first time in Spring 2016. Around the same time Forest and Humour left us for pastures new just outside Sheffield, Peter Herbert was looking for 2 black pet boys to add to his small herd and we understand they settled in very well.

Two girls leave home

Hollybush Alpacas branch out into breeding.

Having fallen for alpacas at one of our Alpaca Experiences and subsequently acquired Comedy and Graduate our now very good friends Steve and Sarah were keen to move in to breeding. They have bought Nero Black Betty (Bam Ba Lam) and Nero Black Bessie and both are pregnant for 2016 births. Happily both girls remain on agistment here and their boys have moved to a new home near Ashington.
